It's very rewarding because I know I was able to lend a hand in improving their lives"

Nancy Rojas obtained her Masters Degree of Arts in Aging Services and was recently honored by NYAHSA for her outstanding dedication to older adults along with a certificate from the Legislature. She says she never sees herself as a "sales person" but more as an advocate for older adults. Upon meeting with Mrs. Rojas, she takes immediate interest in learning as much as possible about the prospect, so she can determine whether or not Flushing House would be the right fit, and if not, she always lends a hand to locate alternative options because she truly has that person's best interest in mind. "It's all about the resident! I've been with Flushing House for the past 19 years and I have developed countless relationships with so many wonderful people. I consider everyone who lives here, as well as the staff, as part of my extended family."
Marlo Molano
Community Sales Director
As the Community Sales Director, I work closely with prospects and their family members, social workers, discharge planners as well elder law attorneys who are in search of alternative living options for older adults. As a graphic artist, I get to utilize my creative side and put together different advertising material and I'm presently working extensively on social media advertising. I also visit local community centers, hospitals and rehab centers to conduct in-services to increase public awareness on the benefits of congregate living vs. living alone. It's very gratifying to listen to the needs of every person who makes the decision to move into Flushing House, and then witness their needs fulfilled. It's really a pleasure to know that I played an integral role in helping improve their overall quality of life.
Josh Lutz
Activity Leader
As activities leader for the largest independent living community in New York State, I have the most fun job a human being could have. Using my degree and 10+ years teaching experience, Katie Rivers and I have created a wide variety of programs for our residents that I truly believe is the most diverse array of activities available anywhere. At Flushing House you will never ever see macaroni glued to a plate or anything of the like. You will, however, be able to tune in to our very own in-house TV Network that I have created (FHTV) and see us throwing themed rooftop dance parties with a 19 piece jazz orchestra, cultural van trips, computer training in our new internet cafe, coil enamel kiln classes, resident art galleries and even our own touring FH band who just put out a new professionally recorded album you can pick up on iTunes! Our social and recreational programs are designed to challenge and soothe minds, bodies and spirits. My door is as open as my heart so if there's ever anything a resident might need, I am always honored to serve my Flushing House family in any way.
Katie Rivers
Activity Leader
As one of the Activity Leaders my focus is to help our residents continue to live a full life! If you look at our monthly calendar that our Department creates, you will see a wide variety of activities. We have Weekly Entertainment from Talented Musicians, BINGO, Writing Workshops, Wine & Cheese Events, and Monthly Birthday Parties. Flushing House also owns at 12 passenger van so we take two trips a week. We go out to museums, theaters, stores, restaurants, and picnics in the park! My experience comes from years of program directing for many different age groups. My involvement in my church community has given me a foundation for how to organize activities and build community among a group of people. I have also spent years working with the hard of hearing / senior community looking to provide support and educate those about services they have available to them. I love what I do here at Flushing House and when I miss a day I feel like I've missed so much. My hope is to continue to encourage residents to keep active and continue doing the things they love to do!
