1 . Activities & Amenties

No. All activities are included in your monthly rent! You do not pay extra for any in-house activity.

Yes we do, on our own Flushing House van (same as an Access-A-Ride van). We take bi-weekly trips to stores, casinos, gardens, restaurants, plays, museums and more!

Yes we have high quality New York City live entertainment usually more than twice a week.

Yes, our residents have a huge say in what we spend our activities budget on. We have monthly activities meetings, a suggestion box and open door policy.

Absolutely everything. From Bingo to wine and cheese. From book clubs to technology seminars and beyond. We have the most fun and culturally diverse array of activities you will find anywhere!

We encourage you to do what you want, when you want. Choose the programs that make YOU happy and come and go as you please.

You will be surprised to know Flushing House has a newly renovated full service salon, a rooftop solarium, a workout gym, a general store, an on-premises bank, an on-premises clinic, two libraries, a 72 inch TV Lounge, a huge arts and crafts room, an internet cafe and a sports lounge.

2 . Dining

No, the dining room is open only during meal times.

Your guests may accompany you during your meals. Dining expenses will be added to your monthly rent by the dining room manager.

Three daily meals includes continental breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Yes it is. We have an in-house executive chef and full kitchen staff. Everything we serve is made entirely from scratch on-premises.

You simply call the dining department and we will have it delivered to your room.

All meals are served open seating. Breakfast is served from 8:30-10am, lunch from 11am-2pm, and dinner is served from 4pm -7pm

We use no salt in our food at Flushing House. We use only low sodium stocks

Of course! This is your home, it will simply be charged to your monthly rent bill.

We have a full service wait staff for each of our forty three dining tables.

Although we don't cater to special diets, we do accommodate everybody

You can join us every month for our monthly dining room meeting where the residents can have a say in the menu construction and planning of what is served, how it is served etc.

You are welcome to eat as much as you like in our dining room but for health and sanitary reasons we ask our residents to keep meals inside the dining room, or have it delivered to your room.

3 . Moving In

The majority of the residents furnish their own apartments which is preferred.

However, if you are interested in renting furniture, it can be an option. Keep in mind, there is a month to month furniture charge if you choose to rent furniture.

All apartments (furnished and non- furnished) come equipped with a kitchenette and a small refrigerator. Rental pieces are: twin size bed and night stand, full sized dresser, dining set (small table and two chairs), large comfortable chair (usually a recliner), two table lamps, and a floor lamp, entertainment stand and HD flat screen television.

No, however you will be able to access standard channels on your television. You may arrange Cable and Internet services with the provider of your choice. Keep in mind, on-premises we have a sports lounge which gives you 24 hour access to Cable television and 24 hour Internet access. Also, WiFi internet (wireless) is available in most public areas (dining room, lobby, game room, library, rooftop lounge, etc.) of our building, and there's no charge!

No, telephone service is not included. Please contact your provider to transfer your service at least three days prior to occupying your new apartment.

No, however on-premises, there is a general store which carries such items. We go on group trips and provide transportation to and from Target, Wal-Mart and, the 99 cents store.

4 . Health Care & Services

Yes, many of our residents have their prescription medications delivered daily by a local pharmacy called JW Pharmacy.

Yes, Anne Canadeo, director of resident services is a notary.

We do not handle anyone’s personal laundry. There are coin operated washers and dryers on every floor.You may hire a private/non-private aide to assist you with laundry.

You may have overnight guests. When you have a guest, keep in mind that fold out beds can be rented for a small fee.

No, we do not provide transportation to doctor’s appointments. Many of our residents use Access-A-Ride or we can assist in calling a car service for you.

No, we do not have doctors on our staff. There is an on-site walk-in clinic run by Flushing Hospital on the premises. They operate Monday through Friday, from 2pm-7pm. They accept all major medical insurance; one of the Doctors accepts HIP insurance.

We are not a health care or assisted living facility, so we do not directly, or indirectly provide, arrange, or coordinate any health care, medical care, personal care, homecare or case management services.

There are two onsite New York State licensed home care agencies staffed with RN’s and aides.

No, as an Independent Living community, you have the freedom to explore your options. You may hire an outside agency. All private and non-private companions and aides are required to sign in with security and wear ID badges.

Yes, there are no adjustments on your monthly rent during those periods.

No one gets in or out of Flushing House unless you want them to. Our security team is on duty (and on call) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with pull-cord response in each room in case of an emergency.

We know how big the change can be to move to a new home. In addition to our dedicated and caring marketing staff, our concierge is located in resident services on the ground floor. Either she or security can direct you to the appropriate staff to offer assistance to you.

In fact, we do! Flushing Savings Bank rents a large office space next to our gym in our lower level for your convenience. Kim Fundaro in concierge can also cash checks and also sells stamps.
