ADVISORY: FREE ELDER LAW SEMINARS – JUNE 4th, JUNE 11th, JUNE 18th

As in previous years, Flushing House has scheduled three free “Elder Law Seminars” for Spring 2016.  These seminars focus on how the changes brought about by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and Medicaid Re-Design / Expansion in New York State, are impacting health care/home care services for older adults.  Medicare changes from the ACA will also be explored, plus asset protection trusts and estate planning.

Ann-Margaret Carrozza, Esq., the noted elder law attorney, will give the first seminar on Saturday, June 4, 2016.   Seniors should know how to protect their home.  Ms. Carrozza will explore asset protection trusts for primary residences and estate tax planning, in light of federal estate tax changes.   She will also advise seniors how to get long-term care they need through Medicaid, while still protecting their assets.

Ronald Fatoullah, Esq., the noted elder law attorney, will give the second seminar on Saturday, June 11, 2016.  Medicaid eligibility rules have changed.  Mr. Fatoullah will give an overview of the Medicaid program and explain how to protect one’s assets in the event long-term health care is needed.  He will also review five essential legal documents that seniors should have: the importance of a (i) last will and testament (ii) power of attorney (iii) health care proxy (iv) living will and (v) living trust.

Maria Alvarez, Executive Director, NY StateWide Senior Action Council, will give the third seminar Saturday, June 18, 2016.  She will be joined by Eric Hausman, a Medicare Consultant.  Ms. Alvarez will provide an update on Patients’ Rights Issues for older New Yorkers. Mr. Hausman will provide an overview of Medicare and related insurances, including Medicare Part A and Part B, Medigap/Medicare Supplemental insurance, Medicare Advantage/Medicare Health Plans, Medicare Part D and EPIC and the Medicare Savings Programs.

All three seminars are from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and will be held in the Flushing House game room; refreshments will be served and handouts will be available from the speakers.  Seminars are open to the public and admission is free.
